Introducing Miss Christina

Miss Christina started Sunshine Acres Beagles 20 years ago with "Angel", the first beagle in our companion pet bloodline. She raised Angel as her first child, before having daughter "Christi", and then son "Cody". From Day 1 Angel proved to be a wonderful guardian for Christi & Cody, and there are many stories to share about our Angel.
Christina enjoys fishing, 4 wheeling, gardening, cooking, nature walks, antique stores, and hanging out with Grace.

Christina had grown up with a beagle as a child, and remembers the days of having to chase her first hunting bred beagle through the streets. Years later she purchased beagles in Seattle, and saw what a difference there was between the Hunting Bloodlines, and the Show Bloodlines. She knew beagles had wrongfully been given a bad rap due to families experiences trying to make a hunting line scent-oriented beagle into their housepets. Miss Christina knew that the beagle as a breed could be wonderful pets, and she made it her mission to develop a line of beagles intended for Pet Homes, with all the wonderful qualities to be Indoor Companion, and without the negative characteristics associated with hunting lines. Over the years, Miss C has worked on eliminating the Scent-Driven mindset, replacing it with a Family-Oriented mindset. She has also worked extensively on developing better coats and various colors & sizes.

Christina's Memories

  • Born in raised in Florida, Hawaii, and California.

  • Got first beagle "Katie" in 4th grade from an uncle who hunted. She escaped by climbing over our fenced back yard almost nightly to use her tacking abilities in the woods nearby. We gave her to a family on a farm when I was in Highschool.

  • Attended Western Carolina University, Double Majored, Bachelor of Science and Business Administration

  • President of Pi Kappa Alpha little sisters organization

  • Dream Girl of Fraternity

  • Nominated for Homecoming Court

  • Secretary for the Business Manager of the Western Carolinian Newspaper

  • Graduated in 1981

  • Worked in Charlotte NC for Mortgage companies as an underwriter;

  • Lake Side Resort rentals in Mathews NC as a leasing agent

  • Lived at Lake Norman NC, and got 2nd beagle "SweetPea", who was also a scent triggered escape artist who would run off to track animals. We gave her to a children's camp to be a camp mascot, where they had huge fenced campgrounds.

  • Returned home to Florida and managed apartments near Bayshore in Tampa FL

  • Did a lease up for RiverClub apartments on the Hillsborough river

  • Lived on Clearwater beach at 880 Mandalay doing long and short term ocean front rentals

  • Got married and took over managing Water's place apartments in Tampa FL

  • Adopted 3rd beagle "Aubie" while living in Tampa

  • Moved to Seattle Washington, lost Aubie when she got loose and didn't make it back home.

  • Learned about the Northwest Companion Beagles from our vet.

  • We chased beagle ads week after week, and due to their high demand we would call, make an appointment to go see them and sometimes drive 3-4 hours only to arrive as the last of the litter was being adopted & going home with someone else. (This is one reason we have developed a waiting list, and once approved as an appropriate home for one of our babies, our customers are offered puppies that match their preferences, so everyone is happy!

  • Adopted "Angel" our first companion beagle.

  • After seeing the stark contrast in Angel, and my 3 previous beagles, I was convinced that someone needed to make it their mission to bring companion beagles, who's heart was centered in the home, to everyone across the country.

  • Christi was born April 6th 1990

  • Angel had her first litter of 9 beagle puppies!

  • Cody was born May 15th 1992

  • Moved to Florida, and then NC.

  • Developed our unique Khaki and Silver colored beagles, starting the "khaki" name. Also coined the phrase "yuppie puppies" to describe their luxurious coats!

  • Divorced and moved into a rental with Christi and Cody.

  • One of the first breeders to develop a website to showcase our exclusive Beagles. Years later, other breeders began creating simple websites, and copied our phrases- but we still hear from folks across the country that they felt drawn to ours, and feel it shows our sincere desire to share our love of the breed with families.

  • Raised Christi and Cody as a single mom, and as a family we all committed to continue raising Sunshine Acres Beagles.

  • Moved to Union County, NC.

  • Developed smaller sized beagles, and coined the term "mini" beagle, previous to this small beagles were called 13" and pocket beagles, which we considered misleading.

  • Purchased a home on 5 acres to expand our collection and dream of having one of every color and size.

  • Added on an office and professional Whelping Room/Nursery, and area to house boarding dogs in their own crates/bed within our familiar home when their families travel.

  • Nominated & became a lifetime member & VIP of Biltmore Who's Who
