Quote from the Dog Whisperer:
Understanding how dogs behave in nature can help us to better fulfill their needs when we bring them into our homes.Your goal should be to provide your dogs with the same calm-assertive leadership that they would experience in a pack.
- When a puppy enters the world, his first pack leader is his mother. Canine moms teach rules, boundaries, and limitations from day one!
- Newborn puppies don’t get a name like we do. The closest thing to a personality is a dog's status within the pack. In the animal world, there are two positions: the leader and the follower.
- As newborns, first the puppy's nose starts to work, then the eyes, and finally the ears. As they grow older, dogs still experience the world in this order: nose, eyes, and then ears. This is entirely opposite of how we do: ears, eyes, and then nose. Keep this in mind when meeting a dog for the first time. Let the dog explore your scent fully before attempting any other interaction. This is how she gets to know you.
- In their natural habitat, dogs earn food and water and experience the world around them by walking. This activity is ingrained deep within a dog’s DNA. Walking exercises your dog’s body and stimulates her mind.
- There can only be so many pack leaders, so most dogs are born submissive. This creates a balance in the pack that fosters healthy and happy dogs.
- As adults, dogs look to their pack leader to create that stability. They don’t question the pack leader’s position, and the pack leader doesn’t look to the dogs to affirm his position. This is the natural balance of the pack.
We want to see that all our special Sunshine Acres Beagle babies gain the privilege of reaching their full potential as your happy indoor companion, learning & growing from your responsible home. In order to help your puppy live a happy & harmonious life with you, the pack leaders, aka all humans, must be consistent in conveying to the puppy how he will fit into the family, and where his proper place is within the pack from the very start, while your puppy is depending on you for guidance, and adapting to your lifestyle.
Being Responsible Now is Key, to ensure that everything will go smoothly forever more, as you properly raise your new little sunshine acres beagle puppy into your family's perfect companion pet.!
Your new Beagle Puppy will enter your home attentive to you, their human caregiver. From Day 1 they will begin observing you, as well the order within your pack. They will learn from their interactions and experiences, and develop an adaptation to suit the situation. As responsible puppy parents, it is up to us to not only fulfill the needs of our canine companions on a physical level, but to also communicate our pack order in a way that our puppy can understand, so that they can easily begin adapting to our pack's rules & boundaries successfully, and achieve balance & happiness.

Quote from the Dog Whisperer:
Dogs are animals, and they respond to calm-assertive leadership—not emotional arguments or negotiations. If you have a dog in your life, it is important to understand how to allow her to live in a balanced way and achieve a healthy state of mind.
Dogs have found themselves in an odd predicament by living with humans. In the wild, dogs don’t need humans to achieve balance. They have a pack leader, work for food, and travel with the pack. But when we bring them into our world, we need to help them achieve balance by fulfilling their needs as nature intended them to be.
How does this work? Through my fulfillment formula: exercise, then discipline, and finally, affection. As the human pack leader, you must set rules, boundaries, and limitations and always project a calm-assertive energy.
When you fulfill your dog on a primal level as nature intended, you will feel in tune with your dog and connect with your dog in a deeper way. Put your dog's needs first, and take responsibility for our dog's state of mind. Only then will you experience all the love your dog has to give!
Respect & Responsibility brings True Love,
Proper Communication leads to Respect.
Encourage positive behavior, and Correct negative behavior.
Puppies seek established boundaries. They want to figure out how to best adapt to a situation, and they need right & wrong to be established so that they can form their lifelong behaviors. Like the natural order of an intelligent wolf pack, they thrive in an established pack order, and they love the leaders who are wise in taking care of them, while requiring respect of their position.
Puppies develop respect for calm-assertive leaders. They trust those who make the appropriate efforts to guide onto the right track, and properly communicate to them, so that they can fully understand what they should do with their new pack. Make sure your puppy can understand what makes you happy, and what makes you disappointed in them.
Puppies begin developing their lifelong habits, behaviors, and personalities during their growing stage with you. This is your oppurtunity to communicate exactly how they should behave to fully enjoy your pack's order. By helping them develop a responsible man & dog relationship now, you can ensure a long, happy & prosperous life together with your canine companion.

Help them understand what you're talking about!
- Puppies need for you to be straight forward about a situation. Be Assertive. Your baby canine will truly respect your wisdom & dedication to properly showing them what they should be doing to live most harmoniously, and will love you for your honest & up-front communication.
- Make your tone of voice reflects the message you need to send to your puppy.
If you are happy about a postive behavior, let them know you are proud of them telling them they are good in a calm, approving, sweet voice.
If you are disappointed in a negative behavior, Speak in that low, slow, and unapproving tone. Look directly at the puppy as you speak calmly, but disappointed. You want to see your puppy is actually responding to the lesson. If he feels your energy, he will calm down, and listen to your correction. He will usually begin looking ashamed, embarrassed, about his previously negative behavior, which you just corrected him about. You have just changed the mood. Now, if he wants the mood to improve, he will follow your lead. - When your tone & demeanor effectively reflects your message, your puppy will more fully experience the correction.
If they don't understand your command at first,
Speak their Language.
In order to help them understand a lesson, you can communicate in the language of the respected mother dog to establish your pack's rules. The Alpha, such as the mother dog, has mastered the art of correction within her own pack, and so can you within your new pack, by being committed to being an effective Leader.
A warning No in momma dog terms is a strong growl. She is being firm in her position on the matter, which puppies respect. Puppies don't know what "nono" means. The Correct tone of voice helps your puppy follow your energy. However, until they learn your language, it is most effective to speak to their language.
When correcting a bad behavior, be sure your Growl actually sounds like a real growl & reflects that canine message.
Trying to say a word, and actually saying it are two different things. You want the puppy to understand you. We have seen instances where folks did not appropriately correct their puppy, and did not use a strong growl. One puppy began biting his new parents, and as this behavior progressed into more frequent occasions, they finally asked us what to do. We asked them what they were doing when he bit, and the husband said "Go ahead, show them your 'growl'". The mom was saying "mmmmmm", and the husband said "sounds like she's saying something tastes good!"lol. Unfortunately, that did not to help the puppy connect that bad behavior with a correction, and he was able to begin freely developing a bad habit.
If you are unclear on what a growl sounds like, you can watch a few wolf documentaries, and try to imitate the pack leader's commanding growl, so that you can effectively respond if your pup begins to push the pack's boundaries. Try to sound like the alpha-dog's growl when correcting an unacceptable behavior, so that your new canine will make that connection.
When you see that they are understanding your lessons, and respecting your correction, you can then begin to incorporate your language. Remember to use the proper emotion-energy, by putting emphasis on what the word means, such as the strong & firm authority of "NO".

If you take the initiative to put yourself in the place of master, & prove to them with your wise confidence that you are fully capable of being the alpha, they can then trust your ability to lead, & will then trust your judgment from there on out. If they respect your authority, they will trust that what you say is the right way, what you say is law, and they will therefore want to follow your lead, and will want to please you & make you proud of their behavior. They will seek your rewarding love by showing you that they have learned how to be compatible with your pack, and are happy to life a long life in harmony with you!
