Deworming
Since worms/worm eggs are in the soil, you can let you puppy out to use to bathroom even on the way home, and especially if he sniffs another dog's poo, the eggs can go right up their nostrils, and start the cycle all over again.
We avoid commonly used rest areas, even around the vet's office we don't let our puppies use the bathroom, since other dog's germs &/or worms could already be there.

Your vet may even mention that puppies often acquire worms, its quite normal , and that they can come from the mother through her umbilical &/or milk supply, since giving wormer ( a potentially harmful poison/ pesticide) during pregnancy could be harmful to the unborn's development, as well as the worms. we dont worm pregnant moms while babies are inside for their safety to avoid possible side effects, or defects to the unborn developing puppies inside her. We do worm mom once her little ones are safely born and once they are 2 weeks old they begin getting wormed by weekly in order to take care of all the various stages they may have .
It's best to get on a routine whether they have worms or not, of doing it every 2 weeks, and we suggest purchasing your own bottle of wormer to keep on hand (Evict DS, Nemex II, or Strongid, or some vets recommend Panacur) so that you are able to give it 2 days before going in every 2 weeks for Booster shots (which consists of a series of 4)
This way, you know if your puppy has picked up any new worms at the park, or in your yard etc, they will have been expelled through the feces prior to the vet's fecal exam, and you will not need to worry about the added expense of having the vet administer the wormer when you go in for that shot. Even though we have wormed them and do again the day before, or day of adoption the cycle can still have others in various stages so its good to continue this practice till your vet says they are all cleared out and your pup can have a once a month pill to prevent picking up worms in the future as they grow.

Often the cost of one de-worming during the office visit exceeds the cost of a 6 month supply when you purchase it yourself.
