Puppy/Dog Food
We highly recommend Iams & Eukanuba. These are top-of the line Dog Food, and are both made by the same company.

- Iams is less expensive than Eukanuba & can be purchased in your grocery store,
- where as Eukanuba is a bit pricier and is not in the grocery stores- (petsmart carries it.) you feed less than other brands due to most others having so much less actual nutritional benefit to your pup.
- Eukanuba has Omega 3 fishoils for skin and coat, and helps with less shedding and overall health for the long life of your new family member .
- Both have chicken meat not by-products as their main ingredient and all natural vitamin E. to preserve it .
starting pups out on the best possible food is a good beginning to a healthy life !
How Much & When
Starting out with a new little puppy, you feed about a handful to minis (or about 1/4 cup) and about 1/2 a cup to standard size puppies, twice daily (breakfast & supper). Start off with Small Breed Eukanuba, (if they are big enough to chew up Medium Breed Puppy that is fine too!) or Iams Puppy. Get used to about how much is right for your puppy by observing those first few days- it is easy to feed too much (many beagles can keep eating more than needed if they are allowed!) If your puppy's belly appears extended, or larger than it should be, you should reduce the amount each day until you find the right about that is comfortable for your puppy's little belly!
Usually at about 4-6 mos. old you can switch to Medium breed Eukanuba, or Iams mini chunks.
It is certainly possible to overfeed, the minis especially. They will always welcome food, so be careful when feeding! Overfeeding can cause them to grow larger than they should, just like people, so if you would like for them to stay small, don't get their body into the habit of accepting more food than needed.
Too Much?
Sometimes customers have fed more than the puppy was used to, and assume that that fat belly means that they have worms. Instead, it simply means you need to cut back on the amount you are feeding so as not to stretch out their proportionately smaller sized stomach. Sometimes puppies who are given too much, can actually throw it back up, if their body rejects the too much excess food to process at once. Don't be fooled & automatically assume there's cause for alarm- consider the factors that may be contributing first.
And always remember to check for our advice & feel free to first come to our many years experience with the ways of these babies if there is something out of the ordinary concerning you-
Very often there is a good reason for it & it is quick & easy to remedy yourself.
Note: Keep in mind that we regularly de-worm the puppies, from the time they are 2 weeks old, and are de-wormed every 2 weeks. We also like to this for you the day you come to pick them up, along with the shot due at that time so that you have 2 weeks before you should take your puppy in for a followup booster shot-
