These folks had already sent her bed, blankie and toys so she was content on something so familiar.

we suggest having a crate as a back up option too , someone with a blanket on their lap can help the new pup adjust to making a change of scenery :) and then set the sleepy pup in a nice crate with a bed in it when you need to get out at a restaurant or rest area on the trip home.

We know how our website helps feed your excitement as you browse the pictures & pages and get your puppy fix! While awaiting homecoming day, it's a good time to do some shopping for the new addition. When you are finally cradling your new family member in your arms -- the moment you have been patiently looking forward to -- here's what you'll need to know to make sure that momentous day runs smooth as silk!
Our family-oriented beagle puppies can begin learning at a young age, making the first day home the best time to begin establishing lifelong habits, adjusting to your routine, and learning from your guidance what is & isn't acceptable in your human pack & indoor lifestyle.
Our puppies begin bonding best around 6 weeks old, and go into their new home attentive to humans and ready to grow up as a family member rather than as a littermate. By that time they are going over to go on paper, eating solid food and independent from mom who has gradually weaned them by spending less and less time in with them (they then have teeth!) and spending more time hanging out in the house with us and going out onto our deck and acreage property to play and run along the fallen logs that we intentionally leave for them, the smaller ones just love getting up there too and it gives our mom's something else to think of while they get used to not mothering and the puppies get used to drinking water, and eating dry food , rather than thinking of mom's portable milk machine!
We get them over that well before they go into a new home so that they spend more time learning from their new family members rather than missing their old ones.. we used to let folks take them from mom and boy there is a difference in that separation vs doing it here with other littermates at first then learning to sleep alone and finally going into their adoptive home and looking to connect with their new pack !
At this age they are forming attachments with their people-family, are still very innocent, and haven't really mastered rough-playing yet, which makes the transition easier on you & children. As a litter gets older, sibling rivalry, playful biting, even testing each other and figuring out dominance comes into play, which is all better avoided than learned. Different moms wean their pups at different ages, but it is generally around this time, depending on that litter's individual maturity.
We've started your puppy off right, being house raised with our family, getting the love and care that true family members deserve.
Then comes the day for you to take over and form life-long bonds and habit in your household.
Have your baby grow up learning just how to fit in with your household, for years of harmony!
Homecoming Day!
Setting an Appointment: As it gets closer to the homecoming timeframe, we can set up an appointment for you to come get your puppy, and can send along directions to get out here. Generally, we like weekend appointments since that is usually what is best for everyone, and anytime after Noon since we devote our mornings to all of our responsibilities around here. Weekends are not always necessary, and exceptions can be made of course, depending on whats going on. Let us know about all the days that would work out and we can compare to our calendar and other Sunshine Acres beagle families to coordinate appointments and find a good homecoming day that works for everyone.
Review our tips before coming out, and be prepared for what needs to be done to help your puppy begin the adjustment.
(Don't forget to follow up on our tips & take the proper actions to make the best lifelong impressions on your new canine family member during those first few crucial days too. Our Guidance page is very important!

What to Bring for the ride home!
A box, or crate, with a blanket or quiet time cuddler bed in it, maybe a toy the size of a litter mate, and a greenie or rawhide chewtoy is great! Even if you have someone with you who plans to hold the puppy (which is a great bonding time, teaching them to sit in your lap!) , it can prove to be handy to have somewhere secure to set your puppy down if needed. If you're taking a longer trip back home, you might consider having newspaper or a weewee-pad in the car, just in case your puppy is crying to let you know that he or she needs a "hurry-up" (as we call it) break, and you are unable to pull over for one! Puppies certainly don't like go on you anymore than you would want them to, so they cry to let you know they might need a paper or grass visit! If the puppy starts crying in the car, and you can't get over, its easy to put some newspaper in the floorboard (or in a box if you're on a long trip and would like to bring an extra box) and then set him/her down to see if that was what the fuss was about! Don't forget your camera! |
Quick Check-List of
Things to Consider -Crate for the ride home
-Bed -Toy & Greenie -weewee pads or newspaper for the floor board incase you can't pull over! -Clorox wipes & extra grocery bag -All Natural Valerian Root for an easier more relaxed adjustment -Stainless steel bowl & bottle of water (for long trips) |
If you would like to have some items sent to our house ahead of time for your puppy to be getting used to, and for him/her to share with the littermates who will get their scent on it for your puppy to bring home, you are certainly welcome to do so! Just let us know what you plan to send via email so we are expecting the box.
You can just follow our links on the Suggested Items page here (which credit us for referring you), purchase your items online often at much better prices than in-store prices, and have them sent directly to our house.

this little gals new mom and daddy sent her puppy care package to us so she could get some photos with her things for them to judge her size . her littermates can play with her toys so they seem familiar to her when she is in her new home . we enjoy seeing what arrives for each puppy who is claimed . They also sent a magnet of Pittsburgh pa. where she was going to live . Miss C.s dad was from there when he was growing up before moving to fla.

We like to have gone through the first days of having the puppies learn to be away from mom before you get here to adopt them so that the transition to your family is not as hard for them and they wont be thinking of nursing on their mom who has already gradually weaned them and is no longer in the picture .
They will still be used to having their littermates to snuggle with though, so having a familiar toy theyve already gotten used to here or blankie with the littermates scent on it is good for them to snuggle with those first nights away from home! we recommend sending a puppy care package ahead of your adoption date . we can let the others play with your pup and their toys so when they leave us they take along their own things too . The littermate's scent doesn't remind them of nursing/ FOOD that the mother scent tends to do, even smelling mom's scent can remind them and cause them to cry. The siblings' scent just reminds them of comfort & cuddling!
All puppies will still do some crying the first few nights away from our home missing us, remember it is like bringing a new baby home! so sending a puppy care package with some to us for your new family member is suggested to make them more comfortable.
But after a few days of having you be their caretaker they will begin bonding with your family and see you as their true pack to love and learn from.
Another great thing to have on hand is Valerian root extract. It works so well the first few nights away from us & their littermates to help them calm down and get some sleep. You give a half a dropper full by mouth 5-15 min. before you need them to go down for a nap or at nighttime and they will settle down and not cry, just drift off to sleep. This is also nice for the car-trip home
Its an all natural and safe herb it just calms them so they can rest, doesn't knock them out or anything, and you can wake them if needed. We advise folks who plan to drive home with their pup to go ahead and get some for the trip home so they can rest, especially if it is a long ride home!
Let us know if you would like to add the Valerian root to the puppy pack for $10 when you get here.
Method of Paying
After claiming your puppy, you are welcome to send payments towards their balance
while you wait so that there is less due at the time of homecoming.
During a homecoming appointment, We prefer Cash, or will gladly accept Cashiers Checks, or Money orders for the final balance.
(Due to a few recent NSF's, we prefer not to accept personal checks for a final payment.)
We are also able to accept paypal.
You can also choose to use your Pay Pal online acount when done in advance. They can be used to transfer from your bank account, or can be used for Credit cards if set up that way prior. If the account is at all tied to a credit card, this method does deduct a fee though, so there is a conveinence fee of $5 per $100, so that would need to be added in for us to get the full balance. Ask us about using paypal ahead of time for the final balance and we'll send along the info!
Traveling
Travel to NC PageIf you are coming from a distance, consider making a vacation, getaway for two, or fun trip for the family out of the drive! Check out our travel page for attractions, and cool areas of interest near our Monroe location!
Also, here's some Things to Remember when Visiting in our Home !
Reduced Boarding Fee
While we prefer for the littermates to go home around the same time, and for there not to be one left alone for an extended time after the rest of the litter leaves, we will in some cases where a family suddenly finds they are unable to bring their puppy home for an extra short while charge a reduced boarding fee of $5 per day to keep the puppy on here. This covers the additional time and individual care of keeping the pup on here alone; food, keeping them up to date on shots, wormings, taking them outside to go to the bathroom. etc. while the rest of the litter has gone on into their new homes, learning the ropes of their forever household and becoming attached to their forever families, rather than us.
A Happy Family
Once you have made that commitment to adding a Sunshine Acres Beagle Puppy to your life and having us help you find your new pal to raise and enjoy, the whole process of bringing one of our family-oriented companion pets into your life can be a very unrivaled & memorable event! With our approach to bringing in a new puppy, you can be involved upon joining the waiting list! You watch the website, and keep up to date on what is going on. You share in the happy occasion with the families who are already welcoming their puppies into their home, as their pictures and stories are added to their puppy's section & the love in the emails / happy updates shines through!
You anticipate the mommies' birth of expected litters, browsing the pictures and reading about their past litters. You experience the fun of seeing that a litter has arrived, and watch for pictures and updates.
Then comes the day that you receive that smile-inspiring email, the one that causes you to run through your house, wake up the kids, wake up your spouse, or simply sit in glee as you say outloud, "Its my turn!"
After you have officially claimed your puppy, you continue to come back to the website, even daily, (or multiple times a day as we've been told!), and periodically check for new pictures of your baby and/or the littermates as they mature. At two weeks you watch as your darling's eyes have opened to the world. Its like watching your child grow, into the beautiful (or handsome) cutie pie that will finally come home with you, and ultimately become an inseperable piece of your life's puzzle... You, are a Sunshine Acres Beagles Happy Family.
From there, your bond with your new companion beagle will grow each day, and while following the tips & advice we have given, he or she becomes an integral part of the family. As time goes on, we, Miss Christina & kids, continue to look forward to your updates & pictures of our baby in their home with you as their forever family!
Don't forget that we board while you travel!
We also have a location raising our beagle puppies in Georgia at Miss C.s sister's. They live even further out in the country than we do here in NC and are happy to meet you closer to town or hwy 75. they also do courier trips up to 4.5 hr drives for $225. Lots of folks ask for beagle puppies in Altanta and she hand delivers there often.
